2. The Chance encounter.

I usually don’t see my dad that often. After he and momma got a divorce, he just didn’t come by the house as much. So whenever I got the inkling to go see him and his new wife, I have to take the bus or drive my momma or one of my brothers or sisters cars over there. But today is different. Of course it would be when your about to move from nowhere, Michigan to nowhere, South Carolina.

Let me explain. See, I grew up in Battle Creek Michigan. Although it’s supposed to be the cereal capital of the world, don’t nobody know where it is. They just know it’s in the same state as Detroit. Now my momma movin me to this little ole town in South Carolina she grew up in that don’t nobody know even more. Its called Estill. It takes up one neighborhood in BC. Im sure you can guess how excited I am about that.

I gotta leave my daddy and his wife (who startin to grow on me) My 3 big brothers Eddie, Roderick and Calvin and my 4 big sisters, Zanita, Victoria, Kathy and Unique. And since Im close to everyone but my momma, and that’s who Im moving with. I guess that’s why the way she told everybody she was movin was all slick and sudden.

Short story/Poem experiment Part 1

Nothing Gold can stay by Robert Frost.

Nothing Gold can stay.

Nothing Gold can stay because everything has to change. Life is always on the movie. For example, as a child it made you feel better to have your favorite stuffed animal or toy with you (mine’s was named Buster). But as you got older, the toy didn’t comfort you as much, so that golden time in your life when the toy did comfort you is now gone.

I once I had a dream that my mother had died. It made me realize just how much she meant to me. I didn’t see her dead body in the dream or anything, but i just knew and I felt so empty inside. When I woke the next day, I immediately told her how much I loved. That dream showed me not to take people for granted. They may not always be there.

A big conflict was that our children do not have as long a childhood as past generations, perhaps because of media and what not.  It just seems as though they get information easier which makes them more away, and strips away their innocence. Just as in the Garden of Eden.

When does real life start?

I believe real life starts the minute you reach college territory. In high school, you don’t have to worry about how much a book costs, or how much this meal plan costs, or how are you supposed to minimize your debt in order to register for classes. To me in this day and age, real life begins when you have to constantly worry about paying this bill or that bill. That’s not all that life is about, of course. But as i said. In the day and age of today, learning how to manage money is a key part of growing up. I consider college a prep course on how to be an adult.
